"More than 400,000 people have crossed the threshold into famine and 1.8 million people are on the brink of famine". United Nations Aid chief Ramesh Rajasingham
The people of Ethiopia are precious to HOPE. It’s where our work began and our hearts are heavy right now knowing what families in the north are facing.Conflict surrounds the region and famine threatens so very many. But we can take action and be tangible compassion.
HOPE is joining efforts with two like-minded agencies to send humanitarian relief for Tigrayan IDP’s and refugees to increase the collective impact of our efforts and to address a critical and dire situation facing people caught in the conflict plaguing Ethiopia.
Mothers and children are most at risk right now. They are the focus of our efforts. UNICEF reports that 140,000 children are facing level 5 famine-like conditions in the area as a result of the Tigray crisis.
"There is the risk of a loss of life running into the hundreds of thousands or worse," says Mark Lowcock of the UN.
